Africa Concert

We presented our work about Africa to a class full of parents recently and the children did very well considering it had to be postponed from when I was away at the end of Term 3.

Wheat Men From Compost

It was exciting to use our compost, made over the past 6 weeks, to create a gift for our dads. Here are some photos and stories about the process.

Making Wheat Men.

We got a tin. We hammered nails into the tin. We got all the stuff to make it. Then we got some googly eyes and some fluffy stuff to make eyebrows. We also got some pipe cleaners to make arms and legs. We made felt mouths and felt noses. At the end we put in wheat grass and we took them home.

We made a tin man. First we got a tin and then we put some eyes and a nose on them. We got legs and arms and some stones. Then we put in some grass. It was fun.

The Baboon’s Bottom.

Once upon a time there was a greedy baboon, a zebra, a giraffe and an elephant. They were thirsty but baboon didn’t let them drink from the pond. So baboon set a fire and the animals kept away. But zebra wasn’t scared. He kicked baboon in the air. The sticks from the fire landed on zebra and the baboon landed in the fire on his bottom. Now baboons have red bottoms.

One day there was a greedy baboon, who wouldn’t share the pond. Everyone was thirsty. The zebra was not afraid and he was angry. So zebra kicked the baboon up into the air. Baboon landed in the fire. Ever since then baboons have had red bottoms and zebras have had stripes.

Learning About Africa

We are very excited about what we are learning of groups of people in various parts of Africa. We know some of the animals found there, we know how people in villages carry things (we tried it too) and how they build huts. We have also been listening to some African folktales. We have started some animal paintings, which we will show you when they are finished and we have made a model village too.

Rangoli Patterns

Here we are colouring our Rangoli patterns. We put some special powder in the middle of our patterns. Coloured powder is used in the big patterns made by Indian people at Diwali time.

Learning about India

This week we have been learning about India. We had two lovely ladies, who came and talked about Indian clothes, Indian food and the festival of Diwali (Indian New Year held in October/November). We have been busy making Rangoli patterns, which are decorations used at Diwali celebrations.
